Hoover suffered from Cholecystitis, the inflammation of the gallbladder. The gallbladder holds a digestive fluid that’s released into the small intestine (bile).  Hoover also suffered from intestinal cancer, shingles, and eye problems. Hoover’s hand became so swollen that he could not write for days wen he had to shake hands with thousands of visitors at the annual White House reception.

Hoover was a self made millionaire and said “If a man has not made a million dollars by the time he is forty, he is not worth much.”
